October 2015
I was fast asleep one morning when I woke up to hear what
sounded like a bunch of cars racing down the nearby street. I looked at the time
and it was way too early in the morning for a bunch of cars to be racing around.
I immediately knew what I was hearing - it was a tornado.
I went outside and I could hear the tornado in the distance, but I couldn't see
it. It was still too dark. Tornados aren't common in my area, so I went back
inside and after a few minutes I couldn't hear the sound anymore, so I didn't
worry about it and went back to bed. Later that day, when I went to the store
around the corner everyone was talking about the tornado that went through the
town and the damage it caused. I took a ride around the neighborhood and saw
where the tornado had come through. Fences were down, trees were down, and some
houses had roof damage. The path the tornado took came through my neighborhood a
few blocks away. It passed right over my brother's house in an adjacent
neighborhood. No-one was injured and damage to the town was mostly minimal. I'm
thankful for that. I sure hope I don't hear the sound of racing cars in the
early morning ever again.
