During the spring or the summer time every year we pack up and head to a river called the Frio River. This river is my happy place. Every time I get there, I’m always happy and excited. It gives me a good feeling inside when my whole family goes to the river together.

Our river journey starts at the wildflower field. The wildflower field is full of beautiful and colorful wildflowers. We always stop there because my sister likes to pretend she is driving us into our river place. I like to stand up through the sun roof of my Grandaddy’s truck as we drive into our river place. We drive over a bridge that is over flowing with water while my head is out of the sunroof. While we are driving through the water, I feel the cold splashes of water on my face and I hear the rushing flow of the water as it falls over the bridge. I also feel the wind blowing through my hair as we drive towards our river place. Along the way, I try to swat all of the trees with my hands as they pass me by. I try to play a game to hit the small limbs and dodge the big limbs as they pass me by. I know we are close to my favorite river place when we pass by our neighbor’s house and hear her chickens clucking in the yard. We always honk our horn and wave to the neighbors as we pass them by.

Once we get to our river land, I smell the aroma of the cedar trees. It hits me like a ton of bricks and smells so nice. The land is covered with beautiful yellow wildflowers. Colorful butterflies are always flying around those flowers. My river land has some big green trees that cover the land with shade. We hear the birds chirping in those trees. There is a medium size rock on the edge of the river land where I always put some bird seeds to feed a little red bird that always comes to visit. There is also a big black crow that lives in the trees that caws at us. I caw back at him and he caws back at me. At the river edge there is a big rock taller than me. I always like to climb to the top of that rock. When I am at the top, I spread my arms out wide and I become the King of the Mountains.

The river water is a real beauty. It is so clear that I can see my feet and the rocks on the bottom of the river. Ever since I was a baby, I would always throw rocks into the water and pretend to fish. In the middle of the river is a deep pool made by nature. It is also filled with crystal clear water. The water is also very cold. After me and my sister are done swimming and exploring the water, my Grandaddy always has a big campfire waiting to warm us up. My Grandaddy also sets up a ginormous tent. It is as big as a house. Before we eat we change into our dry clothes and then we have lunch or a snack. We also like to make yummy smore’s at the campfire. If you don’t know how to make smore’s be sure to read the other essay I wrote at the beginning of school about how to make smore’s.

Every spring or summer my family and I go to our favorite river. We swim, hike, and explore. It is always a wonderful time when we go to the river.
