We hadn't been to the river in several weeks and I was quite anxious to go. Cyndi had been out of town visiting her daughter for a while and when she got back to Houston she told me that we should just go on to the river, so off we went. We got a late start during rush hour traffic which I figured would put us at the river roughly around 10:00 at night. This would be the first trip we actually arrived at night. In order to keep from getting stuck in the rush hour traffic we decided to take the high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane, a one lane part of the road where cars with more than one person can just scoot on ahead of everyone else in the main lanes. This plan typically works well, however on this trip a large bus full of people from the Houston Metro system just happened to decide that this would be a good day to break down in the middle of the HOV lane trapping all traffic including us behind it. We ended up being stuck here for a couple of hours before the bus was either repaired or towed. We're not sure which happened, but we were back on our way after a frustrating wait.
