Looking in the back of my place, there's lots of debris from the July flood. A couple of things catch my eye that make me feel a bit better about this as a building spot in spite of the high water. The water got about 8' high back here, but the two stumps I see here used to sit back at my campsite where the full brunt of the river flow is. These stumps were pushed back here the opposite direction of the river flow in a back wash which isn't a strong flowing bit of water. The drift wood in the front of this image used to be about 7' up in the tree there in the center (see my April 2007 trip). This indicates that the water got high enough to lift the driftwood out of the tree, but set it down just 20' from that tree in the opposite direction of the river flow. Someone could probably even swim back here in a raging flood of the river without any problems. The water back here might get high in a flood, but is idle water that doesn't move too much. This makes me feel a bit more comfortable about putting a cabin up high here. It wouldn't get knocked down in a flood.
