I had seen an aerial image of High Island showing the entire town surrounded by water just after Ike. On my trip today, several months after the storm, I see debris 10' up in the trees on the outskirts of High Island. This image was taken about 15 miles inland. This whole area had been covered in sea water at least 10' high from the storm surge which came in prior to the winds. There are few roads out of here, so anyone along the coastline or in this general area would have been stuck long before the actual hurricane winds started blowing. It's a thought that humbles me.
