The subways in Moscow are an amazing sight. These go down several hundred feet below the city built during the World War II days and actually have large steel doors to close people in way down below to protect them in the event of a significant bombing event. To get on the subway, you jump on one of these escalators that goes down and down and down and down. (Click here to watch the video clip)
