The space shuttle era has ended, the shuttles have been decommissioned and are now on their way to the final resting places at various locations across our country. Today the space shuttle Endeavour stops into Houston, Texas on its way to its final resting spot for public viewing in California. Houston is the home of the Johnson Space Center where all on orbit shuttle operations were managed by those working at the center including folks like myself. My colleagues and I watched as shuttle Endeavour came into town atop the 747 shuttle carrier and landed at Ellington field. We then went to visit this shuttle after its arrival and later on in the afternoon I took a couple of my grandchildren to see the "space ship" as the little one Makayla calls it. I've spent nearly twenty years of my life supporting the shuttle program, and have had the opportunity to see the shuttles up close and even doing work inside of them on occasions during that time, so it was great to see Endeavour up close once again, but 'twas a bittersweet moment seeing Endeavour and knowing that these great vehicles will never launch into space again.
