November 2004
The day after Thanksgiving, Cyndi and I head back out to the land for a three day weekend. We got there and set up a new tent that we had just bought.
Cyndi had decided that we really needed a bigger tent, so we had bought a larger
3 bedroom tent just before this trip. (One of the neighbors asked if it was our condominium
when they stopped by later for a visit). It took us a bit of extra time to set it up because we weren't used to this
new condominium of a tent. The poles that held up a covering just over the front door just wouldn't sit in
place and we spent a bunch of time trying to get them just right. I ended up poking myself in the eye really bad with one of them and had a good shiner
all weekend. The funny thing is that when I first poked myself in the eye, I knew that it was really bad but I wasn't really concerned about the fact that I
may have just lost my eye - I was just upset that I would have to leave and miss out on my fantastic three days at
this place. Lucky for me, after sitting in the truck with a bottle of ice water stuck to my eye for a while I realized that I wasn't going to lose my eye
after all and all was better (but really sore and black and blue) the next day.
This adventure was quite fun and we had the best time of all of our ventures so far (which is hard to do because they are all great). It was a bit chilly at
night this trip (actually quite cold - it got down in the twenties), but our bigger tent allowed us to set up a catalytic heater and by throwing some hand
warmers under our covers at night the cold was bearable (almost).
Cyndi had also told me she was sooo tired of eating sandwiches each trip, so this time we decided on no sandwiches.
We ate stuffed flounder the first night and baked ham for breakfast in the morning. We snacked on fruit and crackers for lunch and had grilled pork chops and roasted veggies for dinner the second night.
For breakfast on the last day we had some good (greasy but good)
grilled sausage. We're eatin' good these days on a little propane
grill we had invested in a few trips back. Eating good food has since become a
standard part of our trips.
