A little bit of paradise!

March 2005

What a cruddy weekend... weatherwise anyway. Cyndi and I went out to the land on Friday to talk to the electric company about setting up an electric pole to get us some electricity out on the land. We had a misty rain all day on Friday and a good drizzle of rain all day and night on Saturday. Sunday morning was cloudy and we had a slight drizzle just after packing our gear for home (good timing).

Even though the weather was bad, we still had a great time. The electric company came out and marked a place for our electric pole and meter. Now I just have to wait and see how much it is going to cost. Hopefully it won't be too much.

Cyndi and I walked up to the top of the bluff to Eddie's place on Saturday during a misty rain and then ventured down the creek. While we were in the creek, Cyndi found some frog eggs and picked them up to look at them. As she was putting them back, I noticed two large leeches squirming out from under the eggs. Luckily neither attached to Cyndi's hand. Silly her wanted to pick one up for me to take a picture, but I told her to just leave it in the water and I got a picture of the thing there. At the far bend of the creek, we noticed Eddie's goats roaming high atop a ledge on a bluff up to cave that Eddie tells us is a cave that used to be used by Aoudad sheep (at least until his son shot a few - Eddie gets a lot of food from hunting around the area).

Saturday night, Cyndi watched a movie in the tent on a portable DVD player, while I sat outside watching the clouds change during the rain. I saw a couple of deer and something I think was a beaver swimming in the water in the evening. We had put some corn out to see what might drop by during the night. One of our corn piles was completely gone in the morning, and we had also found a raccoon print next to some trash that had been pilfered during the night. I'm guessing the deer ate the corn while we were sleeping.

It was a fun time... even in the rain.
